Situated between marshlands and the slow-flowing Bayou Lafourche is the small, unincorporated community of Lockport Heights. Most of the northern section consists of farmlands and homes branching off Highway 1. The southern end has local storefronts and more houses. Melinda Punch, the owner of Punch's Seafood Market, says this is a "quiet and close-knit community" supporting its local businesses. "We've been at the same location for 30 years. In Lockport Heights, homes to the north are more spaced out than properties to the south. New Traditional houses are in this part of the community, inside the Lake View Plantation development. A handful of new constructions are alongside older ranch-styles that have stood for decades. Manufactured homes are raised on elevated blocks to prevent flood damage, while some front yards have ditches for rainwater drainage. Homes don't often enter the market in Lockport Heights, but the most recent dwelling range in price from about $125,000 to around $275,000.
