Shorewood is on the north end of Mercer Island, which is a small city in the middle of Lake Washington. Interstate 90's floating bridges connect the island to Seattle and Bellevue. "One of the points that makes Mercer Island a big seller is how central it is. The highway just goes right across it," says Andrea Pirzio-Biroli, a managing broker with John L Scott Real Estate, who grew up here. Single-family home options include 1950s to '70s ramblers and traditionals, many of which have been remodeled. Prices range from about $1.7 million to $2.4 million for these older homes. In contrast, larger contemporary homes dating to the 2010s and on are typically $3 million to $4.5 million.The island's largest apartment community is here. There are also condos, though the number of listings on the market may be limited. Values are estimated in the $400,000s to over $2 million, depending on size and age. Northwood Elementary School and Islander Middle School earn A grades from Niche. Mercer Island High School receives an A-plus and has a pool and water polo teams. The private French American School of Puget Sound, graded A-plus, is nearby.
