Why Live in Washington
Founded in 1788 and set 90 miles north of New York City, Washington is a small Dutchess County town of 4,500 offering single-family homes with acreage, scenic countryside and Millbrook, the town’s vibrant hub of charming boutiques and restaurants. “Washington is just the town in which Millbrook, the village, is located,” says Ernie Acampora, an associate broker with River Realty Services, who has over 17 years of experience. “Millbrook is a quaint little village with all kinds of cute little shops.” Most groceries here are locally sourced from nearby farms, and the town’s parks and country roads are lined with mature trees. “There’s mountain views; it’s very rural and private,” Acampora says. “They want to be kept quiet and lowkey.” Secluded along tree-lined country roads or atop winding driveways, Washington’s single-family homes are generally farmhouses and Colonials from the late 18th century through today. “There’s a lot of estates you probably can’t even see from the roads,” Acampora says. Most are three- to six-bedroom homes with layouts ranging from 1,300 to 6,000 square feet and 3- to 20-acre lots; typical features include covered patios or porches and detached garages.
