Owner Greg Whetstone has an official SEC helmet from every team, and he's always excited to talk football with patrons. "The restaurants around here are really one-of-a-kind," says Nickel. "Most are locally owned and really cherished by the folks who live around here." This is the type of neighborhood where regulars feel like family and are treated accordingly. Delicious deli staples are on the menu at 5 Points Deli and Grill, along with beer and live music. Locals flock to Leroy for cocktails, a quirky local bar with great bartenders and great vibes. Patrons can enjoy a beverage on the patio or enjoy the energy inside as the bar fills with locals looking to unwind. Arguably the best spot for live music is 1048 Jazz and Blues, which has shows every single night. Residents often come together for community events like a spring concert series in the park, parades, cook-offs and more. On Independence Day, the neighborhood is decked out in red, white and blue flags, decorated bicycles and pets in patriotic costumes for the annual 4th of July parade. Neighbors gather for a community Thanksgiving potluck each year. The streets echo with the festive sound of Christmas caroling on December 23, after which residents enjoy a community bonfire accompanied by cups of cocoa topped with marshmallows. Education from kindergarten to college
Children attend Montgomery County Schools, which earns a C-plus from Niche. Forest Avenue Elementary School gets an A-minus and Bellingrath Junior High, a charter school, receives a D-plus.
