Winding roads of Mediterranean revivals surrounded by puzzle-piece lakes make up the Naples community of The Strand. The tropical-inspired environment and private, picturesque communities invoke a sense of tranquility and exclusivity while staying conveniently close to life's everyday necessities. With a median age of 61, this neighborhood hosts many retirees looking to enjoy a slow-paced, golf-filled life. However, "There have been a few young families moving to the area who are interested in golf and the amenity-rich clubhouse on site," says Lisa Casarella, a Realtor at Downing-Fyre Realty who has been selling in Naples for 11 years. The Club at The Strand is the most significant draw to the neighborhood. Still, highly rated schools, expansive parks and convenient shopping attract homebuyers, too. Despite being in an area with a below-average CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, houses are reasonably priced for the Naples Metro area. Nearly $400,000 less expensive than the city's average, homes in The Strand offer seclusion and privacy.

Life at the clubhouse
The Strand is a deed-restricted community, meaning anyone who lives in the neighborhood must have a club membership. The membership includes everything except golf, which can be added for an additional fee. These club fees are separate from HOA fees, which go towards security, landscaping and maintenance. Three nine-hole courses, a fitness center and tennis courts have been at the clubhouse since its inception, but the club has recently added bocce, croquet and pickleball. "The general manager does a good job of keeping things going with live music and entertainment," says Bonnie Winfield, a Realtor with Amerivest Realty who lives in The Stand. "The restaurants also serve food seven days a week, and Joseph runs many fitness classes for every level of ability." Table tennis tournaments, farmers' markets, and bingo nights happen occasionally. Still, residents usually spend time taking a dip in the heated Jr. Olympic pool.

Mediterranean villas and mansions
Divided into clusters of single-family homes and villa-style condominium duplexes, The Strand offers various prices for homebuyers. From studios to four-bedroom units, condos vary significantly in size and sell between $450,000 to $800,000. Mediterranean-inspired single-family homes with tile roofs, arched doors and stucco siding sell anywhere from $750,000 to $3 million. "Many of the units have been completely renovated," Winfield says. "Ones that haven't are still in great condition but slightly outdated." Offering more privacy than the condos, homes usually come with pools in screened-in lanais and beautiful views of the golf course they back onto. However, condo buyers need not fear the high summer heat as subdivision clubhouses have community pools. Often kept in check by maintenance crews and homeowners' associations, the coastal courtyard residences and large homes display manicured lawns with vibrant shrubbery and flowers native to South Florida. Locals can enjoy quiet streets and sidewalks lining the golf course for an evening walk under meticulously planted palm trees.

Regional parks supplement private clubhouses
South of the neighborhood is North Collier Regional Park. The space is a destination spot for families from all over Naples, with soccer fields, baseball diamonds, a fishing pond, a playground and an expansive waterpark. Walkers can birdwatch along the elevated walking trails and wooden bridges through the marshy forest. Court sports facilities are available 4 miles west at Veterans Community Park. This park, which residents can reach in less than 15 minutes, has ample courts for tennis, basketball, racquetball and pickleball. Those with young kids or visiting grandchildren can check out the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples. Interactive exhibits and play spaces fill the colorful, curved building.

Shoppers can find a national grocer and chain restaurants at Pelican Strand Shopping Center in the southern corridor. Publix, McDonald's and Subway share the parking lot, while a Walmart supercenter and Target are just south on Immokalee Road. At the corner of Immokalee Road and Livingston Road is the one-of-a-kind Seed to Table market, where locals can enjoy regionally sourced produce, a handful of in-house restaurants and bar options. The kiosk-like eateries have an array of food, from vegan and organic dishes to sushi and smash burgers. Skillets has 16 locations across Florida, including one at Pelican Strand Shopping Center. Remote yet accessible
Bordered by Interstate 75 and Immokalee Road, traffic noise is standard in the neighborhood. "Immokalee Road can be a nightmare at certain times of the day," Winfield says. Fortunately, residents can access the area through gated entrances on Immokalee or Veterans Memorial Boulevard. Buses stop along Immokalee, heading 7 miles west to the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. The neighborhood is within 15 miles of downtown Naples and 22 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport. Interstate 75 leads north to Fort Myers and east to Fort Lauderdale.
The Naples Airport is just down the street from the Pelican Strand neighborhood.
The Strand is located off of Immokalee Road with direct access to Interstate 75.

Respectable schools in the area
Even though the neighborhood has an older population, there is no age restriction, and a few young kids live there. Children can begin learning at Veterans Memorial Elementary School, rated an A by Niche. North Naples Middle School and Gulf Coast High School also receive an A. Offering a gifted program and AP classes, the high school is in the top 100 public high schools in Florida, according to Niche.
