GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process. About the Builder

The story of Skogman Homes begins in Sundsvall, Sweden, where Nels J. Skogman, great-great-grandfather of today’s owners, helped build the city hall in Stockholm. Seeking new opportunities, Nels immigrated to Perry, New York in 1903 and worked as a carpenter. His son, Erick, entered the building trade early, delivering lumber by horse and wagon at just 13 years old. In 1906, the Skogman family relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where they remained until the onset of World War II. In 1943, Erick moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to remodel apartments for defense workers. Just two years later, his son Roy joined him, and together they laid the foundation for what would become one of Iowa’s largest and most respected homebuilding companies. Over the next 25 years, Skogman Homes built more than 11,000 homes across Iowa, earning a reputation for excellent quality, thoughtfully designed neighborhoods, and the best home value in the Midwest. In 2003, Skogman Homes expanded into the Cedar Valley, bringing the same tradition of quality living to families in Cedar Falls and Waterloo. The company’s first development, Quail Ridge, opened in 2005 with 182 homes and quickly became known for its welcoming design—mirroring the feel of Cedar Rapids’ beloved Bowman Woods community. The success of Quail Ridge earned Skogman the “Quality of Life” Award from the City of Cedar Falls and Cedar Falls Utilities in 2013. Today, Skogman has developed four neighborhoods in Cedar Falls and Waterloo and has built more than 500 homes in the Cedar Valley. Throughout its history, Skogman Homes has stayed true to its guiding philosophy: creating communities built on Relaxation, Friendship, and Family. More than a century after Nels Skogman first picked up his tools, our mission remains the same—to deliver lasting value and build homes that fit the lifestyles of the families we serve.
