Located on the southern coast of California, Oceanside is San Diego County’s third biggest city with a population of 167,086. It forms a tri-city area along with Carlsbad and Vista. The city offers a diverse range of housing including coastal estates and condos, planned neighborhoods and rural horse properties. There is certainly something for every future homeowner.
The area was first founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1769. By the 19th century, it became a central location for farming and grazing, and Oceanside’s downtown was built in 1890. The area has recently been restored and remains a historical landmark. With the arrival of the 20th century, the city became a central location for beach goers, and housing and neighborhoods grew during the 1920s and 1930s. Those original homes with historical value have been maintained, and can be viewed today. Since the founding of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in 1942, the city has continued to grow. Over the following decades, many suburban developments were built to provide affordable housing. Today, the city is known for its value in the housing market, particularly in regard to vacation homes.
Boasting beautiful sandy beaches, Oceanside is a perfect spot for surfers and beach goers. The harbor also provides a number of water activities including boating, kayaking and paddle boarding. The long boardwalk offers the perfect opportunity for a jog, walk or bike ride down the coast, and leads to the historical Oceanside Pier, one of the west coast’s longest piers at 1,942 feet. The city is also home to the California Surf Museum and hosts a number of surf competitions and events throughout the year. The city is the official start location for the Race Across America annual bike race, a rigorous and difficult sporting event. The Beach Soccer Championships are also hosted in Oceanside, and it is one of the largest festivals on the west coast. The city possesses a semi-arid climate with temperature highs ranging from 64 to 77 degrees and lows ranging from 45 to 64 degrees. It provides a perfect temperate atmosphere for an active lifestyle. Depending on their address, students may attend a number of different school districts including Oceanside, Bonsall, Carlsbad, Vista or Fallbrook. There are also a number of nearby private institutions. Settled along the coast and home to a number of activities and events, Oceanside provides reasonable home prices for the location and is an excellent place to call home.
