Unlike the work of the French impressionist for which its named, the Palm Beach Gardens neighborhood of Monet looks as good up close, as it does from far away. The lush green lawns dotted with towering palm and oak trees help create a canvas for an attractive selection of midcentury homes. But the neighborhood is far more than just what meets the eye. This area is lauded for its location, within walking distance to well-rated schools and a quick drive from a wealth of shopping and dining opportunities. “You’re close to the best of everything in Palm Beach Gardens,” says Realtor Nicole Rymer with Long & Foster, who has more than 14 years of industry experience. “And the neighborhood is close to major highways, which means you can pretty much go anywhere easily.”
Homes at a relatively accessible entry point
A lot of the houses in this area are good starter homes, says local Realtor Lindsay Maldonado of LPT Realty. Most of them were built in the 1960s and 1970s in midcentury modern and traditional styles and lean toward the smaller side, coming in under 2,000 square feet. They are established, but many have been well-kept through the years, and some sit along city canals, offering direct fishing and kayaking access. Lawns here aren’t just well-manicured, they’re also relatively sizable, often around one-fifth of an acre. It all comes with a sense of community, too. “I’ve door-knocked the area and talked to a lot of people that live there and it has a good community of people who care about their homes and care about their neighborhoods,” says Maldonado, a Palm Beach County native. Sale prices in Monet often range from about $500,000 for a home under $1,500 square feet to around $800,000 for a renovated option pushing 2,000 square feet.

Highly regarded campuses, at arm’s reach
Kids here attend public schools in The School District of Palm Beach County, which has a B-plus rating on Niche. The A-minus-rated Palm Beach Gardens Elementary, home to a dedicated STEAM program, is in the neighborhood and walkable for many students. Watson B. Duncan Middle offers a pre-finance program and Howell L. Watkins Middle has a robotics academy. They earn a B-plus and a C, respectively, from Niche. The area’s B-plus-rated Palm Beach Gardens Community High is a quick stroll away and features everything from culinary arts to sports management and recreation.

Interstate 95 is convenient, not intrusive
Part of Interstate 95 cuts through the area, providing residents with quick access to the region. Still, it’s not invasive — even the homes closest to the highway have sound barriers out back, cutting down on noise. And locals don’t even have to use the highway to reach the beach because sandy spots like Lakeside Park are just a couple miles away via Lighthouse Drive. Commuters in the neighborhood can also catch the Palm Tran bus close by, along Holly and Riverside drives. Palm Beach International Airport is 12 miles away on I-95.
Plenty of ways to enjoy the Florida sun
Monet’s canal system is a boon for people who enjoy the water. Adventurers can paddle these freshwater channels for exercise and fun, while fisherman can target largemouth bass and sunfish. Nearby Lilac Park features a covered playground, multiple athletic fields and a dog park. Meanwhile Gardens Park, across Burns Road from Lilac Park, is a baseball player’s dream with nine diamonds and 10 batting cages. “I think anybody that likes any type of outdoor activity, you have that right at your fingertips,” Maldonado says.

Sprout a shopping trip at The Gardens
Monet is mostly residential on its southern end, but to the north it offers many commercial amenities, including The Gardens Mall, a 1.4-million-square-foot shopping mecca with more than 12 dozen retailers across two stories. Legacy Place is located across the road, where there’s 30 more restaurants and stores, like Best Buy and The Capital Grille. Seafood lovers can enjoy the salmon at Cool'A Fishbar next door. For groceries, Whole Foods, Publix and The Fresh Market are close by. Multiple houses of worship are among this area’s conveniences. Locals have options like Nativity Lutheran Church and School and Church in the Gardens, part of the United Church of Christ.
