Why Live in Golden Acres

On the outskirts of Houston in southeast Pasadena, Golden Acres is an established neighborhood of older homes that offers convenient access to arterial highways. Developers founded the community and built it out during the 1940s; between 1946 and 1959, the neighborhood even had its own independent post office. In contrast to many of the newer subdivisions in this area, Golden Acres doesn’t follow a master-planned layout and instead has varying lot sizes, property styles and landscaping aesthetics. “Golden Acres is one of the few places left in Pasadena with bigger lots; there are fewer housing restrictions there," says Julio Garcia, a Pasadena resident and local real estate agent with Innova Realty. Garcia also notes that the neighborhood’s immediate access to the Texas State Highway Beltway 8 is a huge draw for area employees: “This area is close to the refineries, which are big employers for Pasadena,” Garcia says. It’s a 4-mile commute north to get to major oil refineries for global companies like Chevron and Marathon Petroleum. Homes in Golden Acres started to pop up in the early 1920s and were continuously built throughout the 20th century and up to the present day. “Housing
