Yorkville is one of the most desired neighborhoods in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, but that’s nothing new. “Back in the day, there were several mansions,” says Nada Laguna, a local Realtor with EveryHome Realtors. “People maintain their homes.” Residents have called this west end Pottsville neighborhood home since the 1800s, and it’s still attractive today due to the amenities along U.S. Route 209, a neighborly atmosphere and the good condition of the homes. Meanwhile, Pottsville and surrounding Schuylkill County receive lots of interest from out-of-state homebuyers looking for a less expensive place to call home. “We do have a lot of people coming from out of state because New Jersey is getting expensive,” Laguna says. “Investors are coming from New York because we’re less expensive.” Coal mining, followed by steel manufacturing, powered Pottsville’s economy in the 19th century.
