However, the legend of Jumbolair really began in 1980 with the eccentricity of Arthur Jones, inventor of Nautilus exercise equipment, when he and his wife Terri purchased the estate and an additional 450 acres. They added the runway and the warehouse facilities. In 1989, Terri took over and helped develop the aviation community. An accomplished pilot type rated in everything from a Citation to a 747. Her plans for the community were born out of her love for aviation. In 2013, Mr. Merschman acquired the property, took the remaining aviation estate lots off the market and ended the B&B. He built his own estate and kept the property private, except for an occasional event where owners of exotic cars use the runway as a drag strip. Situated in Ocala, FL, Jumbolair's rolling hills and sprawling oaks seem in direct contrast to its large 7,550-foot runway. The homesites have separate roads and taxiways.
