Built in 1838 the Maxeiner House is one of the oldest homes in Galena. This quaint frame house has huge wooden pegs fastening the timbers of oak and black walnut at the house corners. The lath is hand split and the exterior siding of white pine is original as are most of the window panes. The 2 exterior doors with 10 panels are partly hand carved. Four original Carpenter locks remain and two of them having been installed upside down in order to have the doors open the desired way. Zoned Residential/Commercial. Truly a diamond in the rough!
