NEW ENGLAND MEETS NEW ORLEANS. This enchanting antique house built in 1777, as a three-quarter cape and moved onto a larger stone foundation in 1830, has been the curiosity and envy of many a passer by for 100 years. Several generations back, the house took on the unique New Orleans look, with the second story porch that Captain Vincent built when he retired from the sea. The first stage of a thorough renovation has been completed. All the heavy lifting has been done. This untouched antique was just lifted up, the old stone foundation dug out and removed, a new poured concrete foundation installed below grade with the original stones used to rebuild the foundation above grade by a well known Chilmark stone mason. The ceiling of the lower floor was raised 18 inches and the original carrying beam replaced with steel. The original diamond pane windows are being rebuilt. the summer kitchen still in place. The renovation, to strip down to the frame and add a/c, all new electric and heat and plumb the third floor, was halted so the new owner can make the important decisions. For example one fireplace or five? Kitchen on lower or second level? All the original doors, floors on the two upper floors and two fireplace mantels intact. Also radiators if you chose that source of heat. The house has a title V septic for five bedrooms, new copper water pipe from the main and no historic district constraints and a garage and driveway tucked behind. Owen Park and the beach out the front door. Some slices of the harbor from all three floors.
