Welcome to the John P Sullivan House! This is your opportunity to be the steward of a true piece of southern history and unusual architecture that has been carefully moved to this beautiful property and lovingly restored to its former grandeur. Originally constructed in Anderson SC by a family from Charleston in 1859, the John P. Sullivan House features the distinctive architecture referred to as “Chinese Chippendale” (one of only five remaining homes of that style in the state). Per the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, when Sullivan purchased the home in 1872, it was “in a state of neglect.” After Mr. Sullivan refurbished the home, it was a showplace until recent years. During that time it was the home of George Bell Timmerman Sr., once associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, and George Bell Timmerman Jr., South Carolina governor (1955-1959) and present circuit court judge, born there in 1912. Neglected for many years, the home was purchased by former owners who relocated the home from Anderson to Greenwood and, over several years, the home has once again been revived to the beautiful condition it exists in today. The home now is the feature property of Friendfield Estates, inspired by the 18th century, 3000 acre Friendfield Plantation in the Low Country in Georgetown County. The home sits on 6.36 AC with an additional 15.45AC of horse pastures, private ponds and multiple gardens of herbs, vegetables and cherry trees. You will find several peaceful locations by the gardens, a koi pond and along the flowing stream with multiple waterfalls as you walk through lush plantings. Approaching the large front porch of the home from the formal boxwood parterre provide the perfect introduction to the large original front doors. Entering the foyer, spend a few minutes admiring the 12-foot ceilings, ornate plaster moldings (the crown moldings and medallions are all original) and original, wide plank, antique heart of pine wooden floors in this original portion of the home. Just to your left through large French doors is the formal dining room. The spacious dining room features a Metropolitan Museum reproduction of an 1800's French wallpaper, a tribute to the original Friendfield Plantation in Georgetown. Just off the Dining Room is a large Butler's pantry with lots of counter space and cabinet storage, (plus washer and dryer) and a large center island for prepping food or large gatherings. This conveniently located just off the side Entrance Hall and Kitchen. A private Living Room is to the right off the Foyer through an additional set of French doors. Reminiscent of its original days, both the dining and living rooms have masonry fireplaces with gas logs. The foyer also offers visitor a view through the rear gallery's large windows of the rear terrace, fountain and sweeping views of the pond beyond. At the rear of the home is the casual living and dining areas. There is a spacious Great Room with a wood burning masonry fireplace, extensive molding, deep tray ceiling, half bath and floor to ceiling back windows overlooking a lower patio and pond. This room opens to the well-appointed Kitchen separated by a convenient breakfast. The Kitchen is anchored by a large island topped with Carrara marble quarried from northern Tuscany. The kitchen is equipped with a 6-burner gas cook top and large vent hood, centered over the large island. The kitchen has Carrara marble counters, dual sinks, double ovens, dual refrigerator-freezers, a dishwasher, disposal and compactor. At the rear of the home, natural light pours through the windows of the Gallery that joins the Great Room, grand Foyer and the Master Suite. The upper patio and fountains also connect the Master Suite and Great Room. The large Master has a tray ceiling, lots of natural light and substantial moldings. A large French door opens onto a balcony overlooking the rear grounds and pond with its fountain feature. (Please see Addendum)
