Historically significant this home is one of the earliest documented buildings in the old part of Historic Centreville. Built by James Croney Circa 1795 the original home was an excellent example of the two-room plan, one- and one-half stories high and two bays wide, a plan that was in considerable favor in Centreville during the initial phase of development. It is unfortunate that due to financial difficulties Croney conveyed the property in 1800 to settle a debt. In the mid-19th century, the home was enlarged, and further additions were made to the rear in more recent times. Many of the homes vintage and historic features have been preserved and restored. The molded baseboards, vintage windows, antique doors, beautiful hardwood floors, architrave trim, the turned newels and square banisters bring, wide center foyer, romantic lower and upper porches and Victorian front door bring the past to life. Old meets new with modern comforts and updates including HVAC, all new plumbing and electric, updated baths and kitchen with granite counter tops, island and stainless-steel appliances. Spacious primary bedroom with luxurious bath and private entrance to upper porch are one of the highlights. There is also a separate apartment in the rear with a private entrance ideal as a rental, office, guest quarters or in-law suite. This property is in the Central Business District of town. It has been used primarily as a residence and B&B but has many other uses including offices, mixed use for business on the lower level and rental on the upper level.
