Water Fowl such as Ducks and Geese are also abundant right along the river as well as at Wheatland reservoir #3. Reservoir #2 is close by as well, but it is not open to the public. The Laramie Mountains are about 8 miles to the east. The Medicine Bow National Forest is about 15 miles north. The National Forest offers fun recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, etc. The nearest community, Rock River (pop 250) has a gas station and general store. This area is in the heart of the Wyoming High Plains with the rugged territory and plains that support lots of antelope. The primary economic activity here includes cattle ranching and farming wheat, corn, and sunflowers. Dinosaurs once roamed this vast state and there is much proof at Como Bluff nearby east of Medicine Bow. Como Bluff was the site of one of the first major discoveries of dinosaur remains in the world! So much to explore, so great an area to just relax and soak in the view.
