Local historians claim that the stone foundation of the home was originally the foundation of the Russell Gates Mercantile Company store which they say was built in 1893. "They" also say that the old barn was also used to store ice, to keep the store's perishables fresh. And then there is the old building located in the northwest corner of the property which reportedly was used as the telephone office in the early 1900s. County records estimate that the barn and phone office were built in 1900. Back to real estate. 1094 sq. ft. 3 bedroom home with a 675 sq. ft. cellar, 8’ x 13’ enclosed back porch and a 5’ x 24’ covered front porch. With over ½ acre, there is room to add on if desired. The alley on the west is overgrown with trees and bushes and is no longer used, thereby providing a little privacy for the back yard. The well was drilled in May 1993 and is 480’ deep. Septic was installed before permits; we’ll find out more about the septic and leach field after it is pumped and inspected.
