About This Home

As of October 2019

The house

Carefully renovated and restored single-family brick townhouse with five bedrooms, three baths, seven working wood burning fireplaces, original detail, renovated, eat-in kitchen, family room, backyard, and a secluded roof deck. This cozy, narrow house is designed with every inch of its 2,700 sq ft to be used comfortably and efficiently, including a private guest suite.

It's located on a tree-lined block in the heart of Clinton Hill near the Pratt Institute, two blocks from the subway, one block from both Myrtle and Dekalb Avenues with a variety of restaurants, grocery stores and coffee shops to choose from. It's within walking distance of the Navy Yard and the ferry to Manhattan.

Other features include original hardwood floors, high ceilings on every floor, custom lighting, California Closets, a central vacuum system, split-system ductless AC units, and updated electrical and plumbing.

The parlor floor

The parlor floor has Eastlake details including an ornate banister and stairway, crown and baseboard molding, ceiling medallions, pocket shutters, pocket doors, rich woodwork, and board and batten paneling.

The living room features a wood burning fireplace and opens onto the dining room. Through carved doorways, both with original pocket doors, is the renovated kitchen, with a Viking range and fully vented hood, a Sub-Zero fridge, two Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers, bamboo cabinetry, a large Carrera marble island which easily seats four, and efficient storage and work space. The oversized windows look out onto the private garden below. Approved plans would allow a door and stairs to be added to access the garden.

The garden level

On the garden level is the family room that doubles as a private guest-suite with exposed ceiling beams, exposed brick, a working fireplace and a small kitchenette. The front bedroom, has a restored tin ceiling, another working fireplace, and beadboard paneling. There is a half bath and shower on this floor. Through the back door is the garden, with a gas line and grill. This floor has a private entrance under the stoop.

The third floor

On the third floor of the house are two bedrooms, a Jack and Jill bathroom between them and a laundry room. Each bedroom has a fireplace with carved wood mantels. The front, south-facing bedroom, has a wall of custom-built bookshelves. The bathroom has floor-to-ceiling subway tile, two vanities with marble tops, the original, restored claw-foot bathtub, and marble basket-weave floor tile. The laundry room, which also provides extra storage space, has a full-size washer, a vented dryer and a rinse sink.

The fourth floor

The master suite and the fifth bedroom, currently used as an office comprise the top floor. Light pours in from an enormous skylight, which illuminates both the master bath and the stairwell. Ancient Japanese doors welcome you into both rooms and the master bathroom. The office/bedroom is bathed in bright afternoon light. The master bedroom looks over the garden below and a magnificent Magnolia tree. Both rooms have exposed brick and working fireplaces.

The five-piece master bath has slate and porcelain tile, radiant heated floors, a walk-in rain shower, double sinks, and an extra deep, two-person Zuma whirlpool tub.

The roof deck

A pull-down staircase in the master bedroom leads to the secluded roof deck which offers views of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
