The train goes past the house approximately 2-3 times per 24-hour period. The train rarely operates on the weekends - and we can't remember the last time we saw the train on a Sunday. There is an ordinance in the village that does not allow the train to sound its horn from 10PM-7AM. Instead, the train has a little bell that you can hear as it goes past. The train horn is loud outside of the house (i.e. - if we are on the porch or in the yard, we will go inside to protect our ears). Inside the house, it is surprisingly quiet when the train goes by. For example, we both work from home occasionally and the train horn does not disrupt video calls/phone calls. While living in this house, we had a baby and the train horn and train going by did not seem to interrupt her or her sleep. The house does not shake or rattle when the train goes by. Every Thanksgiving Weekend, the CPKC Holiday Train goes by the house and stops at the Ganser-Smith Memorial Park. The train is entirely decorated with Christmas lights and has old fashioned train cars and a caboose! When the train stops, one of the train cars folds out onto a stage and they have a celebrity guest perform a concert and hold a food drive. It's a really neat and unique event and the children in the neighborhood love it!
