Inside, the graceful stairway has two landings, decorative posts and balustrades. The handsome hardwood floors have never been sanded or altered and remain in excellent condition. Oak, laid geometrically in room length strips-unusually long for the period-with a double border of darker walnut around each room, give a unique look. Tall baseboards & 10 foot high ceilings offer an elegant feel. The Great Room, with a railing around 3 sides on the exterior, was added in the 1950s using salvaged materials from the Confederate Home of Missouri, located just north of Higginsville--handmade bricks, stone sills & slabs, foundation stones & a fan-light from the front entrance. Built-in china closest in the dining room. The great room has a gorgeous fireplace-black Italian marble veined with green & white marble from the Bank of Higginsville. Natural birch built-ins, open shelves, birch ceiling. Two other ornate fireplaces in the home. The remaining rooms exhibit their original charm with very little change. Hot water radiators. Clawfoot tub in the upstairs bathroom. Storm windows. While the home needs love and care, it's been preserved with a high degree of original integrity.
