2422 Ridge Rd, Berkeley has two conjoined communal houses: Casa Zimbabwe (CZ) and Ridge House.

Casa Zimbabwe:

Casa Zimbabwe, also known as CZ, is a vibrant cooperative community house for students of any university or community college. It is located in the Northside neighborhood of Berkeley, California, only one block away from the UC Berkeley campus.

CZ is known for its strong culture of creative expression, with eclectic murals on its hallway walls, regular band nights, and other social events. Like all the Berkeley Student Cooperative houses, CZ comes with many amenities included in rent, such as wifi, utilities, study rooms, communal gym equipment, common spaces, a group Netflix subscription, and more. CZ is a historic gem beloved by generations of students, and is a truly unique and memorable place to live. Rent also includes a kitchen kept fully stocked with groceries, and communal meals are held 5-6 nights a week!

Ridge House:

Ridge House is a vibrant cooperative community house for students of any university or community college. It is located in the Northside neighborhood of Berkeley, California, just one block away from the UC Berkeley campus.

Ridge is a community with a great balance—it has a vibrant social scene while also being a place where one can find peace and quiet to focus on studies. The house hosts regular social events such as band nights, and has a beautiful backyard with a dome, tree house, and vegetable garden. Like all the Berkeley Student Cooperative houses, Ridge comes with many amenities included in rent, such as wifi, utilities, study rooms, communal gym equipment, and common spaces. Rent also includes a kitchen kept fully stocked with groceries and communal meals are held 6-7 nights a week!

Contract Periods:

Fall Semester: $4,638

Spring Semester: $4,638

Full Summer: May 24 – Aug 15

First Half: May 24 – Jul 4

Second Half: Jul 5 – Aug 15

Summer Rates (per person):

Room Only Houses: $1,204 per 6-week session, $2,408 full summer

Room & Board Houses: $1,619 per 6-week session, $3,238 full summer


The Berkeley Student Cooperative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit housing cooperative.

Our mission is to provide a quality, low-cost, cooperative housing community to university students, thereby providing an educational opportunity for students who might not otherwise be able to afford a university education.

Founded in 1933, the BSC is the largest student housing cooperative in the United States.

We order all waitlists based on the date the registration fee is paid and any priority a person has. Housing priority is given to: EOP, Students with Disabilities, Transfer Students, and EAP students however all students are most likely able to get a spot.
