Kegler* and built by the Bellevue Construction Company with brick manufactured in Bellevue. The home’s design (influenced by the late Governor William Larrabee’s mansion in Clermont, IA) was originally a stove house (i.e. heated by wood stoves), with four chimneys and no fireplaces. The outside walls are 3 layers of brick with a void between brick and inside stud wall - leaving a vapor barrier. Today the fully insulated barrier offers efficiency in heating and cooling and an exceptional sound barrier from outside distractions. *A prominent figure in the Bellevue Community, Kegler built and operated Bellevue's first dry goods store and served as its Mayor. He held a post in the Iowa General Assembly, and an inventor/patent holder. The current owners purchased the home from Mr. Kegler’s daughter in 1980.
