Built in the late 1950s, the ALCOA house was commissioned by the Aluminum corporation of America and designed by Charles Goodman (Washington National Airport; Hollin Hills) as a case study of commercial grade, off the shelf construction materials to be used to build the carefree home of the future. Although at least 40+ were commissioned for construction, only 24 were built due to blown budgets and only a handful remain unmolested by time and tastes. This example (one of two in the state) was found and lovingly restored in the heart of southeast Michigan by a young couple who work in the automotive industry in styling and advertising. They have spent the last five years bringing this historic beauty back to life, only to have to lend it out as they are nearing completion as they partake on an adventure. Some features were modernized and rethought, but almost every square inch of the property has been lovingly updated in the spirit of the original design.
