Designed by prominent VA architect Charles Robinson, the house embodies a unique classical Mediterranean style. It features marble water tables, sills and quoins at the corners, terrazzo floors on two of the three Doric porches, arched first-floor windows with some of the original inset wreaths, and an elegant stuccoed parapet above a dentil cornice. The bedrooms on the second floor were provided with decorative slate mantels. In recent additions include a conservatory off the dining room and a classical quarter-sawn oak library installed in a former reception room off the front hall. The library is complete with a secret sliding door which provides access to the former servants hall, now a back access to the kitchen.
The largely fireproof house is constructed of structural clay tile covered with red-tinted stucco. The basement walls are built of rough-hewn granite and the two upper floors are of concrete. With some repair work and modern updates this house will be an absolute show piece. The city has already given approval for the address to be changed to Walton Avenue if the new owners wish.
