Besides the expected historic properties, the city is dotted with cottage, condos and traditional family homes. In addition, there are also some mansions to be found in this area.

Richmond’s real diversity is found among its many neighborhoods that each tend to have a specific feel to them that draws certain residents. The Fan is an urban neighborhood that is popular with the younger crowds, including young families and with older couples who no longer have children at home. The homes in this area are Victorian townhouses, carriage houses and converted apartments. House prices are a bit expensive but the schools are excellent. Woodland Heights is an old neighborhood with a range of housing options from bungalows to Colonial Revivals. This neighborhood is very diverse, drawing in almost any type of resident. Westham is close to the University of Richmond and is known for its wooded areas. This neighborhood features homes built in the 40s and 50s. It’s residents are more wealthy and it is mostly inhabited by families and older couples. Oregon Hill is more working class neighborhood with new construction and historic building mingling together.

There is actually a total of six Fortune 500 companies located in the city that offer many employment opportunities to residents. Customer service and retail are also strong industries in the city thanks to the many people who call the city home or who work in the city.
