Originally designed by architecture firm Lescher & Mahoney and used as their own studio and office, it remains today as one of the most iconic mid century modern buildings in Phoenix with masterfully designed interior and exterior spaces, built on a concrete shell with precast concrete wall panels forming the exterior walls of the upper story, and deep overhangs protecting the windows from direct sun helping with energy efficiency. Three wings of the building with a split level floor plan are centered around a square courtyard serving as the main entrance with covered gateway. Underwent extensive renovation in 2004 led by architectural firm Weddle+Gilmore and landscape architectural firm Floor Associates. Lescher & Mahoney was one of the most prolific architectural firms in the history of Phoenix, with work spanning from 1910 to 1974. As Beaux Arts-trained architects, their versatility to remain relevant throughout their lives and well beyond was achieved through usage of a wide diversity of styles ranging from Period Revival, Art Deco, Spanish Colonial Revival, Mediterranean, International Style, Expressionist. More notable works include: 1928 Orpheum Theatre, 1928 Brophy College Chapel, 1929 Maricopa County Courthouse/Phoenix City Hall, 1931 Orpheum Lofts, 1947 Hanny's Store, 1953 St. Joseph's Hospital, 1964 Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
