The Nancy Dodson House, originally constructed in 1811, is a registered historic home in the state of Indiana and a true blend of heritage and modern living. Relocated to its current site in the late 1920s when the Godfrey Addition was established in Mitchell, it first appeared on fire maps in 1931. This remarkable cabin has been lovingly restored while maintaining its original charm, including the preserved original windows. It was featured in the Spring 2022 edition of A Primitive Place Magazine, a testament to its character and significance. Since 2019, the current owners have completed extensive renovations. All plumbing was replaced in 2019, including extensions to the upper level, and the main line was replaced in 2020. A new upstairs bathroom was added in 2023, and the main level bathroom now features a new sink, toilet, and a clawfoot soaking tub installed in 2024. The home’s electrical system was upgraded in 2021 to a 200 amp service. Central air conditioning was installed in 2021, and the furnace is approximately eight years old. All new ductwork was added in 2021, including ducts servicing the upper level. Other major improvements include a new water heater in 2020, all new appliances, new natural gas lines to the main, and a new wall constructed between the living room and the study. A vapor barrier and insulation have been added in the crawl space for improved efficiency. Between 2019 and 2022, new chinking and logs were installed. The chimney has been fully reworked and is structurally sound. The roof has been well maintained with aluminum fiber coating, most recently in 2025. All porches have been rebuilt, and new gutters have been installed. The property also includes a detached garage built in the 1950s with a concrete workshop added later.
