Welcome to Historical Bagdad. An affordable piece of History can be yours. If only these walls could speak. They would share with you about the wonderful families that lived in this Community during the Civil War until today. It is only a couple blocks from the river and near the Bagdad Elementary School. The house was built in 1922, during the time houses were built to last for generations. It needs updating and someone to see the potential and will give it some TLC. Many homes in this community are being purchased and restored to their 'glory' days when the Bagdad Land and Lumber Company provided a strong economy to this area. The Bagdad Village Preservation Association, Inc. is working to restore the History of Bagdad. They have it registered with other Civil War Tourist Attractions such as Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, etc. The Thompson House on Forsyth Street has history from the Civil War and was moved from the River to its present location; the BVPA moved the New Providence Church several blocks and have made it into a Museum with regular Historical Presentations on Saturdays. The BVPS has two Musical galas each year; one is a Holiday Gala at the end of the year and another theme gala in the spring. A "square" grand piano was donated to the Museum and is used during these Musical Galas. They have Mill Days with Vendors providing food and the community giving Historical Presentations such as, "The Burning of Bagdad" which happened during the Civil War. They just Celebrated the 150th Anniversary. In the Fall they open several of the restored homes and have a Tour of Homes with residents dressing in their period dress and giving a tour of the homes. The Bagdad Cemetery has 16 Civil War Veterans buried there and the Historical Society works to maintain this area also. Dr. Dayton Hobbs started the original the T-Ball Program in Bagdad.
