The cold roof system installed in 2003 has a R35 Value. With a cold roof, the roof temperature stays the same temperature as the temperature of the outside air. With "cold roofs" as the snow doesn't melt, there is no question of ice dam formation and resulting problems. The traditional cold roof construction consists of well-ventilated attic space with a pitched roof. Insulation is placed horizontally between the attic joists and the ceiling of the floor below. Any gaps in the ceiling are sealed to keep out moist air from building. The roof rafters are fitted with a bitumen roof underlay that cannot be penetrated by air and moisture. The space between the pitched rafter and the insulation is ventilated. As the warm inside air rises up and escapes through the vents and the inside space fills up with the cold air from outside, the temperature between the outside and inside equalizes. The top of the chimney is covered in a custom designed and built steel cap for added protection against the elements. Ski down the driveway and access the Garnet Hill X country trails. These trails cover 40 miles of trails and run throughout Garnet Hill and nearby Siamese Pond Wilderness Area. In the off season, the trails are excellent for hiking and mountain biking. The Garnet Hill Lodge is just a short walk away and you can enjoy dinner and drinks overlooking the lake and enjoy the beautiful mountain views. At Garnet Hill Ski Center you will find a complete ski shop, rentals, sales and repairs. 2000 ft. elevation and there is ALWAYS snow.
