The house was completely remodeled in 1973, roof and hvac updated in 2008. This house has been in the Shawhan family since 1880. History: Originally the "Johnson Place" was entered in Colonial Indiana Territory in the year 1810 by Col. John Johnson and his wife Nancy Wilson. Her Col. Johnson erected the first mill farmed home in Pike County in 1817. Col. Johnson had sistinguished himself as a soldier in the Battle of Tippecanoe. He was Territorial Secretary to William Henry Harrison, who was Governor of Indiana Territory at Vincennes. Johnson was also a member of the first State Legislature at Corydon. The new Johnson home, Luxuriously furnished, and with a library, was considered a mansion for a frontier home.
