Incredible sunroom with hot tub.Things we love about our home:
First Impression
The woods surrounding the house give plenty of privacy, and the seclusion gives the home the sense of being a sanctuary. Perennial flowers border the sidewalk taking you from parking to the front door. The exterior is finished in Hardy Board Concrete siding for extended life. Our home was built by a contractor for His family.
Garden/Lawn/Rock Garden
The mature perennial garden is stunning when in full bloom as well as in all seasons. Burgundy day lilies, ferns, hostas, light and dark purple columbine, Big Alaska Blue Poppies, hot pink peonies, purple pasque flowers, yellow mountain cinquefoils, orange and yellow lilies, wild geraniums, bleeding hearts, and many other perennials dazzle year after year. From May when the bleeding hearts and pasque flowers begin to emerge, all the way through September when the mountain cinquefoil and liatris are still going strong, the garden always draws the compliments. A small water fall feature encourages birds to come take a bath and get a drink. The deep window box stays warm all summer long. Growing scented plants, such as lavender, in the window box perfumes the master bedroom when the windows are open. The rock garden across the small lawn is ready for an imaginative gardener. The woods surrounding the house give plenty of privacy, and the seclusion gives the home the sense of being a sanctuary.
Entryway
The tiled entryway was the perfect place for a comfortable bench so that guests had a place to take off their shoes and hang up their coats. The large closet stored all our winter gear with room to spare. The view into the house from the entry is one of the most impressive.
Living Room
The high vaulted ceiling with Log Timber accents is spectacular. The two skylights in the living room provide light on even the darkest of days. The stone fireplace with the wide mantel and hearth could be beautifully decorated for every season. The large windows overlooking the front lawn, woods, and perennial flower garden brought the outdoors in. The living room is well designed for having several different areas. We had a TV viewing area, a place to cuddle in front of the fire, a place of music with our piano and guitar, and a library corner. All of our interests inhabited the space. Plus, we were able to have huge gatherings because of the great room.
Kitchen
We bought this house for the kitchen. We love to entertain, and the huge island bar, deep and numerous cabinets, vast workspace, and beautiful views of the Talkeetna Mountains all won our hearts. The convenience of the toe kick vacuum drop in the kitchen made the floor easy to keep clean, and the mixed wood tones are warm and inviting. We loved to spread a huge buffet across the island. Like all good parties, most of our guests ended up in the kitchen, but this kitchen can handle it with room to spare!
Dining Area
The dining area overlooks the back deck, pond and Talkeetna Mountains, which made for great entertainment when small birds were at the feeders and the ravens were chasing off the eagles over the pond. We could easily seat 12 in the dining area, located next to the deck meant that most parties ended up outdoors and there was easy access to the grill.
Hot Tub Room
This is one of our favorite rooms in the house! There are few pleasure Like soaking in the hot tub while a cool - or cold - breeze blows in through the windows. The numerous windows provided enough ventilation to prevent the room from getting too steamy when the lid was off, and the room is large enough to access all sides of the tub. Our houseplants also loved the warmer environment!
Master Bath
The master bath is the bathroom of my dreams, and I will miss it terribly! The bathroom has a vacuum drop as well, which is handy for keeping the floor clean. The double sinks and long counter meant that we had plenty of room to spread out, and we could organize our individual medicine cabinets any way we wanted. With two towel racks, we didn't even have to share a hand towel! For someone who is not a morning person, this was an absolute luxury! The linen closet is located in the master bath, which made towel and bed linen storage convenient. The deep, jetted tub is a refuge, and the walk in shower is large and comfortable.
Master Bedroom
The walk in closet with built in shelving makes organizing easy. The master bedroom, with its bay window with window boxes is a lovely, peaceful, calming space. The square footage is enormous, so that there could easily be a seating area in which to enjoy your morning coffee or evening tea while looking at the mature perennial flower beds. The blinds throughout the house provide privacy and block the light, so sleep was easy even on bright nights.
Guest Room/Craft Room
Sitting at my sewing machine in the craft room, I loved to see the brilliant orange lilies blooming under the lilac tree. I also had a wonderful view of the alder patch that the moose love to visit. I would watch for long stretches as this year's cow and calf grazed a few feet away from me. The room has a wonderful closet with built in shelves on which I stored my craft supplies ,yarn and fabric stashes. It was quick to convert to a guest room when needed, but I loved having a space always set up and ready to work on my projects.
Guest Bathroom
The guest bathroom has ample storage space and is always bright because of the window. Guests appreciated having a roomy shower, especially before and after soaking in the hot tub. You don't even have to wait long for hot water since there is a recirculation button.
Guest Room/Office
The office has a lovely view to the fireweed patch in the backyard and beyond to the pond. With the windows open, we could hear tree frogs and loons from the pond, and could sometimes see the trumpeter swans that passed through during their migration. We've even seen sand hill cranes stopping for a break. The office also has a large closet with built in shelves that helped keep us organized. This room was also easy to convert to a guest room if more sleeping space was needed but also provided us with an out-of-the way place for computer use, TV watching, and paperwork.
Laundry Room
Having the laundry room located next to the kitchen and master bedroom made laundry a cinch. The high counter saved my back while folding clothes, and the utility sink meant that I could keep dirty jobs out of the kitchen. There's also tons of storage in the laundry area, with many cabinets and two closets. The vacuum cleaner and all attachments for the built in central vacuum are stored in half of one closet, leaving a closet and a half for dry goods, pantry items, cleaning supplies, canning equipment, and large kitchen items.
Her Garage
Built in closets meant that I never had to look at a mess in my garage, and an adjoining door meant I never had to look at a mess in his garage, either! All our off season clothing, shoes, and equipment fit into the built in storage. The mechanical room (housing the boiler for the warmth of our in-floor heat) was easy to access through an adjoining door, and the crawlspace access is large, dry, and clean.
His Garage
His garage has one of the best views of the pond in the whole house, which made standing at the built in work bench even more of a pleasure. The overhead storage in both garages kept boxes up and out of the way, leaving more room for toy storage in the garage. The depth of the garage allowed the garden tractor, lawnmower, and snow blower all to be stored inside and still leave room for the truck.
Fenced Area
About an acre is fenced in. Several gates allow access from all sides, including a large gate in front leading to the RV pad. A gate at the bottom of the yard gives access to the pond, on which we canoe in the summer and snowshoe in the winter.
We hate to move away yet we have been called to our next opportunity out of this area. We hope that the new owners will get as much pleasure as we have in this lovely home.
