There's a touch of the "Grey Gardens" here at 7 Brown. Check out the forlorn bench in the overgrown backyard, for one. And if you've not seen the seminal 1976 documentary about an East Hampton estate that was owned by the aunt of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and fell into disrepair, you should at least watch the movie version staring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange that came out in 2009. Both versions of the Beales' story are well worth watching and you'll appreciate the tip. But thank me later and back to Brown. This house, while also experiencing some measure of disrepair, has so much going for it. The bones seem good, the porch and front walk are fixed up and the roof is almost new. It's looking for that enterprising sort of Buyer who loves to rent a dumpster and go to town cleaning up a place, only to be rewarded at the end of a few days' work with a house that may not need much more than lots of paint and some updated flooring. The rooms are big and there's plenty of funkiness still worth preserving, including a darkroom. Not a "dark room." I mean the kind photographers used back in the early 70s. Bring your dreams and visions. Priced to sell and won't last long!
