Arlington Avenue was just a dirt pathway in the 1870’s. Over time, the street was widened, gentrified and became one of the widest and most prestigious avenues in Reno. One by one, homes were constructed from Wingfield Park south to the Arlington Nursery and large ranches sprawled beyond that. There have been many upgrades added since the tour. The kitchen and bathroom have been totally redesigned and remodeled using the highest quality materials and fixtures. The back garden features a lovely, large paver terrace with a wood burning fire pit, stone garden walls, a goldfish pond with tumbling waterfall and an outdoor kitchen and dining area which seats 12 with ease. Pine trees, potted Japanese maples, mature ash and American elm trees and a large stand of bamboo help to make the space very private. Thousands of dollars in antiqued iron work has been installed, specifically the back and side door banisters, the balcony at the bathroom window, utility cover, fire pit screen and side garden gate which all add to Mayfair’s old-world charm. The Hollywood driveway is paved to match the rest of the back terrace and the same theme is carried through in the front walk and stoop. In front of the house, a stately, three-tiered iron fountain balances the huge Ponderosa Pine. A white picket fence frames the property. The main fireplace chimney with its distinctive up-pointing arrow adds architectural interest. Both chimneys have been repointed.
