Summer of 1965. The Good Friday Earthquake was fresh in Alaskan's minds. Chair 1 was 5 years old. Alyeska's first day lodge was 2 years old. Alaska Airlines had yet to purchase Alyeska and build The Sitzmark and Nugget Inn. Eddie Gwendzill, who refurbished the Roundhouse, broke ground on this immaculately maintained one family owner cabin that is now offered furnished with pieces from the era.From "Alaska's Perfect Mountain - Stories From Girdwood And The Alyeska Resort" as written by Lana Johnson:

"Eddie Gendzwill carved a fine line on the ski slope, on the dance floor, and with his exquisite carpentry."

"Like so many other early skiers, Gendzwill came to Alaska with the military, assigned to Elmendorf Air Force Base during World War II. He took up skiing in 1953 and moved to Girdwood in 1958, where he built a log cabin and got a job at the resort constructing the bar and ticket office. He earned a reputation as a top craftsman and was hired to refurbish the mountaintop Roundhouse and build the beautiful Skyride Restaurant."
