As the 1800’s progressed, Fitzwilliam Common grew to include two inns, a blacksmith shop, a bank, & 2 general stores, 1 containing the local post office. As time went on, the Common was thinned out to be what we see today. Fitzwilliam has often been considered one of the prettiest village centers, with a great Victorian fountain, Civil War monument, & even a working vintage hand pump to serve the garden club’s flowers.
