The original 21-acre property was homesteaded in the early 1920's by John Weiburg from Oslo, Norway. The 1910 census shows Mr. Weiburg lived in the Newport area known as Yaquina City. The first original house that Mr. Weiburg built was completed around 1925. Mr. Weiburg logged the property and used the lumber to build his house, chicken coup and barn. The house and chicken coup were constructed with 12x6 logs. He crafted these buildings in his Norwegian style by using a broad ax and fitting the joints in a dovetail fashion. The construction date of the hip roof barn is not known. Mr. Weiburg built his second home in 1937 using the same Norwegian style of construction.
