Welcome to Yellowstone. Designed by Theophilus Chandler, founder and president of The University of Pennsylvania's architectural school, this unique and graceful home was built in 1888 for a Union general, who was one of the first recipients of the Medal of Honor. Its colorful history also includes Grace Kelly spending a good part of her childhood here, riding horses out of the stable/carriage house. Her 1956 "Wedding of the Century" to Prince Rainier of Monaco was planned in the main house, with the help of her godmother Pauline McCloskey, then owner of the property.
Entering the home, you'll find a living room with attached office to your left and a beautiful wood paneled den with a working wood burning fireplace to your right. That room connects to another office area that leads to butlers pantry and a warm inviting kitchen overlooking the gardens and yard. Situated at the Top of the Hill across the street from the Library, you can walk out the door and make your way to the many charming shops and restaurants that line the Avenue. The Chestnut Hill West and East Railroad Lines are within two blocks for an easy ride into Center City. Also within walking distance are numerous entrances to the beautiful Wissahickon Valley of Fairmount Park with its many trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and bird watching along with its picturesque stream with a covered bridge and waterfalls. There is also easy access to the PA Turnpike, the Blue Route and 76.
