In the early `70s, many of New York`s master chefs and restaurateurs escaped on days off to Hunter Mountain. Jacques Pepin was one. An accomplished skier too, he became owner of this delightful and unique French farmhouse up a long driveway perched high above the road, and turned it into a skiing/cooking/gardening retreat. His presence remains, including his vintage Wolf commercial stove in the chef's kitchen, still working wonderfully, and remnants of his fine art talents abound, including the little umbrellas painted on the stairs and some painted window shades. Pepin's art work is known to be highly collectible! There are many other fun retro 70s touches throughout the house that have been kept lovingly in time by its subsequent owners, all of them food lovers. Pepin did major work on the house, adding medieval looking rustic wood beams throughout the downstairs along with tiles from Howard Johnson where he held his first American job, among many other touches. Pepin's lovely garden "Le Jardin" remains too, with its enchanting gazebo, stone walls, fruit trees, and much more. But all around you too is the wild nature of the Catskill Park. There is a unique Pyrenees meets the Catskills flavor here! The house is spacious with a warm and homey open flow, an enormous living space, skylights, a stone wood burning fireplace, lots of windows to enjoy the beautiful views. There's a generous parcel that kisses a lively stream below, with an ample yard and wooded areas, along with a nice sized deck to enjoy the views. Foodies, the gourmet country kitchen must be seen to believed. There's high speed cable internet available, so you can have a work/ski/cook/play lifestyle! The entrance to the slopes at Hunter is just a few miles away, and skiing at Windham is also just about 15 minutes away. Plus the many other amazing recreational opportunities in the Catskills are all around you, and the villages of Hunter, Tannersville and Windham are all closeby.
