The aptly named Wood Valley neighborhood is a Raleigh suburb in the woods north of the city limits. “People love Wood Valley because of the trees. It’s very wooded, very tranquil and very quiet,” says Kimberly Conroy, a Raleigh native and Realtor with Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston, who adds that the neighborhood, mainly developed in the 1970s and 1980s, was designed with tech CEOs in mind. “IBM was having growth in the Triangle, and they wanted nice-sized houses for all these executives. Initially, there was a huge cluster of IBMers over there, and there’s probably still a bunch who’ve retired.” But she says the neighborhood appeals to a variety of buyers today, as its spacious homes are close to Interstate 540: “You can get to anywhere in the Triangle quite quickly,” she says.
