David Knapp

David started his professional career as an architect working for two of Detroit’s most-prestigious architectural firms. In 2010, his passion for architecture, buildings and community development leads him into real estate. As an architect, David led or was part of teams that designed and planned not only neighborhood and urban projects, but large medical and commercial buildings and campuses. With his LEED® Accredited Professional certification (specialist in environmentally sustainable building design, construction, and management), he managed the LEED designation/certification of several of the largest construction projects in Michigan during the time. In addition to professional work, he has also been highly active in local community and professional non-profits leading architectural preservation efforts and championing legislative reform for architecturally related laws. During the “Great Recession,” David found himself taking advantage of the crumbling real estate market and subsequently ended up working for a local, well known, and reputable agency where he brokered more than $30 million in sales. He developed a niche taking on more complicated projects and land acquisitions. David was instrumental in assembling land and procuring other off-market deals with developers, who built pioneering projects that were catalysts for development in some of Midtown Detroit’s burgeoning districts. His passion for real estate and architecture continue to develop where he and his partner are designing and building a number of small residential and commercial developments in Detroit and Traverse City, Michigan. David holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and City/Regional Planning from The Ohio State University, a Master of Architecture, and a Master of Business Administration from Lawrence Technological University, and is a practicing licensed Real Estate Broker and Registered Architect in the State of Michigan.
