About Don
Don was born in Raleigh at the old Rex Hospital on the corner of St. Mary’s St. and Wade Avenue. He grew up in the Coley Forest neighborhood. Don has spent most of his life “inside the beltline,” attending Lacy Elementary, Martin Middle, Broughton High School, and graduated from N.C. State University. This rich history in the area has allowed him to know this part of Raleigh as well as anyone.
As far as credentials, Don has been in Real Estate full time since 1983. In fact, it’s the only career he’s had since graduating from college. He’s closed well over 1000 deals, and over 500 of these properties were located “inside the beltline”. Don has owned Cornerstone Properties since 1988 and has avoided the trend of large real estate companies that have superstar agents with dozens of assistants. It’s just him and his son, Dale, at Cornerstone Properties. They list and sell residential property and they handle every aspect of the deal.
Over 85% of his yearly business comes from past clients and referrals. Many of Don’s clients have completed several transactions with him over the years. If personal attention sounds like a thing of the past, call Don, he’d love to earn your current business and even your future business too.
Don has been happily married since 1980 to Jane, who also grew up “inside the beltline”. They have two sons, Dale; who is an NCSU graduate and works with Don at Cornerstone Properties and Neal; who graduated from UNC and works at a startup company in Durham. He’s a grandfather to 4 beautiful little girls who all live within 2 miles so he gets to visit all the time! They also recently adopted a 10-year-old blind Treeing Walker hound dog named Remi who they walk everyday - rain or shine - in Umstead Park or at the NC Museum Of Art. In Don’s free time, he enjoys playing both the electric guitar and the bass guitar as well as writing and recording original Americana songs. You can find those songs on Spotify and Apple Music under the name The Sir Walters. He regularly rides his bike on the greenway and hike in Umstead Park.

Selling a house is never a fun prospect, especially in a bad economic environment, but working with Donald made the process as painless as it could be. His presentation of my home on a personalized URL with beautiful professional photography made my home look beautiful and his guidance on staging and upgrades resulted in me getting more traffic and positive feedback in walkthroughs. Donald is deeply knowledgable about the Raleigh market and provided me with much needed information to navigate the selling market to get my home sold with as minimal stress as possible.
