About George

George retired from the Social Security Adminsitration on 1/1/12 as the Altoona District Manager with almost 30 years of management experience. After graduation from Shippensburg State University he began his federal career with a 3-year stint in the US. Army as an Information Specialist (reporter/writer) with the 101st Airborne Division. His civilian career as a public servant started at New Cumberland Army Depot where he advanced to the position of Management Analyst. George began his career with Social Security as a Claims Representative in Harrisburg in 1978. He then headed off to an Operations Supervisor position in Dubois. He moved to Altoona as the assistant manager in 1988. In 2005 he became the manager of the Altoona complex which includes the State College, DuBois and Lewistown branch offices. As a Federal employee George demonstrated his commitment and professionalism in all he did. As a recruitment and training specialist he helped select and develop many of the Agency’s current employees. Under his leadership the Altoona SSA complex has led the way for many pilot projects and has served as a training hub for many new employees over many years. He lives in Hollidaysburg with his wife, Nancy, and is currently on staff at Zion Lutheran Church in Hollidaysburg.
