Kamal Cheeks, MBA, is an Associate Broker/Co-Founder of MBC Real Estate Company. Kamal is an eager and ambitious trailblazer that lead the Detroit Association of Realtors® (DAR) in 2016 as President. During his term, he created new initiatives while elevating the 128-year-old organization with 21st century change management techniques and unique partnerships.
Prior to becoming President, Kamal served the association as Treasurer. Over the six-year span Kamal was an elected DAR officer, he received various accolades and was voted by his peers to Realtor of the Year in 2012 and 2016. He is a grassroots advocate with a strong political background. In 2016, Kamal was chosen to represent the voice of the urban Detroit Realtors® in a think tank focus group that would later lay the foundation for the Detroit Home Mortgage program.
During his tenure as President of DAR, he led a successful pilot program that allowed Realtors to schedule client showings through the MLS on a select group of Wayne County Treasurer owned properties, prior to the auction. A total of fifty-two hand-picked properties were sold through this unique partnership. Realtors® efforts boosted net sales to $487,989.00 for the September’s program auction properties and $305,800.00 for the October’s program auction properties. Kamal is a 2017 graduate of the Michigan Realtors® Leadership Academy class where he was taught various leadership skills to advocate and institute innovation within the local, state and national Realtor® organization. Kamal was elected to serve as the 14th District Director for the Michigan Realtors and currently serves in that role.
He currently serves at the pleasure of the Detroit City Council as Chair of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Community Advisory Committee. While serving his third successive term on this board, Kamal and fellow board directors have approved more than 2 billion dollars in TIF Funds for development projects throughout the City of Detroit.
