Upon relocating to Maryland from North Carolina after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2006, Persia immediately became involved with the community of the Greater Baltimore region. She began her career as a paralegal working with attorneys on behalf of clients in a pro bono legal clinic. After five years as a paralegal, she returned to graduate school to become a public-school Spanish teacher and worked in this role for seven years.
