Richard has been in the real estate business since 1979. He worked first in Southern California, where he was born and raised, and then moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1990. The opportunities here were irresistible…and so were the golf courses.
He loves the real estate game, but his true passion has always been the game of golf. In college, he wanted to study golf architecture and design, but no such degree was offered by Occidental College. So, Richard majored and graduated in philosophy, psychology, and art…subjects that turned out to be very useful when he later became a real estate broker.
Since then, he has been involved in the sale, marketing, and exchange of many commercial and resort properties. He is a Certified Commercial Investment Member, one of only a few thousand professionals who have earned that designation. These days, though, he concentrates mostly on residential properties and on homes offered by or to the many, many people whose vision of heaven includes the game of golf.
Over the years, Richard has traveled all over the world. He has played the most historic courses in Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, and the United States. He has been a Director of Golf on five-star luxury cruise ships and has corresponded with many of golf’s legendary figures including Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Gene Sarazen, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Crenshaw. Along the way, he has scrambled well enough to pick up a few trophies of his own.
As a result, Richard now belongs to an international club of golf enthusiasts. It does not have a name, a charter, or a Board of Directors. Nevertheless, we somehow keep in touch with each other. So, if a member over there is thinking about the purchase of a property over here, he is likely to hear about it. And, chances are, that he will hear about it earlier than the other guy down the block, who does not know a mashie from a mid-iron.
This does not mean, of course, that real estate and golf are his most important interests. He happens to have a beautiful and amazing wife whose name is Barbara. They also have kids. And they have friends, many of whom he first met as clients. Do not tell him that business and pleasure do not mix. His friends have taught him that they do.
On top of all that, you may like to know that he serves on the Board of Cherry Center for the Arts and that he is the Founder and former President of the Carmel Woods Neighborhood Association, a group of over 700 homes.
