Steve attended both Ohio University and Palm Beach Community College, as well as serving in the United States Air Force. He moved to Hendersonville, NC in 2000, and he has been active in the community ever since. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf, as well as being the sole proprietor of Uncle Scott’s Pizza, located in Hendersonville's Laurel Park Village.

His wife, Dr. Debbie DeWitt, and him have one son, Hank. Debbie was recently named Dean of Arts and Science at Blue Ridge Community College. Hank attends West Henderson High School and is a varsity pitcher on the men’s baseball team.
