The real estate market was down in Roanoke when I needed to relocate to another city. We had bought our house from Ed when we moved to Roanoke asked him to list it. Ed gave us a list of items we needed to improve the appeal of the house. When we completed, Ed did a walk through to make sure we had not missed anything and then he listed our house for the price Ed thought was correct. By listing at the right price and correctly staging the house, we were able to sell our house. Ed helped us to close and accommodate my out of town schedule. Ed is such a personable and knowledgeable real estate agent. He helped us handle the sale of our parents' home following our mother's death. He was extremely compassionate and empathetic. He did not try to rush us through the process and he had respect for the fact that my parents owned the home for 30+ years. He is also an excellent negotiator and he is skilled at sparing his clients any of the bureaucratic messiness that goes on in negotiations. When the potential buyers came up with a crazy demand-really out of left-field-Ed handled it professionally and shielded us from having to deal with any of it. Ed Smith is a wonderful realtor. He is knowledgeable and efficient. Ed can pretty much tell you about every neighborhood in Roanoke and Salem. He listens to your needs and wants and then tailors his suggestions and home searches to meet your vision. He is an expert on many things outside of just looking at a house. He can help you identify structural issues, understand surveys, and understand how many of the home appliances such as hvac and furnaces work. I asked Ed to look for a house for me on a dead end road with creeks or a pond. He found a property with a pond, three creeks and five springs. The house was small but I added on and tailored the house to my desired design. There were some problems with the asking price and he suggested an independent appraisal. I paid for one and then we were able to purchase the house at a much reduced price about 30% less. Without his knowledge I probably would not have been able to get the property that I have always wanted and been able to build it to my expectations.--H. Newell

We have bought and sold a number of houses and have never worked with an agent as thorough and detail oriented as Ed. Ed helped us purchase a house in Roanoke VA. We were blown away by all the effort Ed put into not only helping us weed through all the choices, but giving his honest opinion about different houses. As we were planning to relocate in the Roanoke area in 2000, my wife saw a sign with Ed's name on it in the yard of a house she wanted to see. She was impressed with his service and knowledge of the area. When we got down to really looking for a house, we called Ed. He drove us all over the area, showed us many houses and found one the fitted our needs perfectly. His work ethic and patience with a couple who were evolving there needs was great. (I would have probably kicked us out of the car at times.) In 2012-13, our health situation required us to down-size; get on one floor, no steps, etc. Again, we called Ed and he did it all again.
