About Wayne
Wayne Shaffer of Shaffer and Associates began his career in real estate in 1972 after serving four years in the Navy. His father, a successful broker in residential and commercial sales, inspired Wayne to enter the business and the two started Lee Shaffer and Sons. With the aid from the GI bill, Wayne attended San Jose State University and obtained a B.S. degree in business, concentrating in real estate. Wayne's lifetime relationships and contacts with the Santa Cruz community since 1950 have cultivated a respectful and beneficial advantage for his clients.
As an owner of multi-residential, retail, office, industrial properties, and vacant land, Wayne can offer hands-on experience on how to manage, develop and invest in various properties. His business offers a wide variety of services which can assist sellers in preparing their home for sale, including referrals of proven trade services to availability of storage and moving assistance.
Other early achievements include Eagle Scout award, Holy Cross High School graduate, and Cabrillo Junior College A.S. degree. He shares an active life with wife Jo Shaffer and has raised two stepsons. Wayne also serves as president of a non-profit board of directors, which are very connected to helping those in need: St. Francis Catholic Soup Kitchen and JMJ Shelter for women and children since 1980. Other volunteer activities include 20 years of service in the Selective Service System, pastoral care at Dominican Hospital since 1977, and UCSC/Cabrillo Newman Club advisory committee.
Wayne's pride and joy is his private 24-acre park, Shaffer Park, which began in 1997 as a memorial for his brother Ron, who passed away from melanoma. With Christian spiritual and athletic themes, Wayne created this work of love with endless energy and thousands of hours of hard work to share with family, friends, clients and many organizations, including Scouting, Veterans, Church groups, and various athletic competitions.
