Hiking and biking on the state border
Situated among the foothills of the Carson Range, the Raleigh Heights section of Reno offers proximity to both nature and the big city for competitive housing prices. Realtor Jessica Hodges of Wedgewood Homes Realty says, “It’s the perfect way to stay in town and keep your costs down, and it’s one of the more affordable areas in Reno before you get into the Cold Springs-Lemmon Valley area.” Though Raleigh Heights is mostly desert, with only a few dozen homes encircling Peavine Peak and its foothills, conveniences from shopping to highway access are all accessible within neighboring communities.
From mountain biking to baseball
Raleigh Heights has a strong focus on outdoor recreation, as the vast majority of this community consists of mountains and desert. Hodges says, “There’s lots of rural land nearby if people want to go on dirt bikes, go mountain biking, or walk with their dogs in the mountains.” Several trails lead up to Peavine Peak, and adventurers can fish in the Peavine Ponds while on their way to the top of the mountain. Dirt bikers and hikers alike venture up the mountain to take in panoramic views of the Reno area. It’s also said that keen observers can even catch glimpses of the state capital of Carson City far to the south. Raleigh Heights Park is located near an entrance to these wilderness trails, and its playground, basketball court and baseball fields make for more easygoing fun closer to home. For more relaxing recreation, “Nearby Sun Valley has a nice water park and skate park where locals can do half-pipe jumps,” says Hodges. Every September, the Great Reno Balloon Races take place at the nearby San Rafael Regional Park, and Raleigh Heights residents can either trek down to the park or observe from the hills as 100 hot air balloons take to the sky over the course of three to four days.
Raleigh Heights is a popular mountain biking destination for residents all over Reno.

Mountain cottages with Mediterranean influences
Raleigh Heights’ housing stock consists mostly of ranch-style homes lining sidewalk-flanked, suburban streets. “It’s full of entry-level homes behind Sun Valley,” Hodges says. “There are cute homes on acre-sized lots, and many of them are newer builds from the 1990s to 2010s. You can get into something that’s pretty nice with decent-sized little yards and manageable payment situations.” While ranches are most prevalent, cottage homes with larger floorplans and the occasional Mediterranean influences add to Raleigh Heights’ diversity. Homes in Raleigh Heights vary in price from $200,000 for a one-bedroom ranch to $730,000 for a newly-built, four-bedroom home with postmodern influences.

At the northern end of Raleigh Heights, Red Rock Café & Sports Bar is a go-to spot to gather with friends to watch the game, play pool and enjoy its signature sandwiches.
