Located in Fairfax County, Reston, Virginia is home to over 58,000 residents. The city of Reston is known throughout the world as a planned community that was founded in 1964. It built in hopes of revolutionizing post-World War 11 land use and suburban neighborhood concepts. This area is part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, and it has several beautiful homes. Many homes are smaller townhomes that are more affordable. There are also some luxury residences that have more space and land.

In 2012, CNN Money Magazine ranked Reston as the 7th Best Place to Live in the United States. It was the first planned community of the modern era. The Lake Anne Plaza area of the town was created to resemble Portofino, Italy. The Lake Anne village provides unique architectural themes that are consistent throughout the buildings, including the gas stations, churches, and schools. This area of the city is also home to art galleries, museums, restaurants, and local shops. Interestingly, no chain restaurants are allowed in Lake Anne. However, other portions of Reston provide modern shopping centers and supermarkets. In addition to the shops, the city is zoned for special areas such as wildflower meadows, golf courses, wooded areas, common grounds, bike paths, pools, and bridges.

Reston follows a set of "guiding principles" to determine the development of the town. These principles are designed to ensure a safe community with a high quality of life. Interestingly, the city has a special fund for cultural, educational, and recreational activities. This fund has paid for swimming pools, classroom space, theaters, ballrooms, and meeting rooms. Reston also holds many exciting events throughout the year, including the Farmers Market, Relay for Life, Day-After Thanksgiving Parade, Reston Festival, and Reston Triathlon. Along with the culture and recreation in Reston, many businesses operate out of the area. The local economy is primarily stimulated by "professional, scientific, and technical services," according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In fact, five of the largest venture capital firms in the D.C. area have offices in Reston. The city is conveniently located to other top destinations including Tysons Corner, Washington Dulles International Airport, and the Capital Beltway. There is also a Reston Internal Bus System that provides five different routes throughout the city. Reston residents enjoy a high quality life that is filled with amenities. Since the city is so appealing throughout the world, the home ownership rate is extremely high.
